About Us

EveryRose.com is the première web site for rose afficionados.

We welcome your suggestions and comments - please email Feedback@EveryRose.com.

The EveryRose.com database is our attempt to collect descriptive information on every rose currently being sold, and the most important historical and species roses. It is a work that will forever be in progress, as new roses are introduced and more data is researched on existing roses. The EveryRose.com database is searchable through a Web browser by many rose characteristics, allowing you to single out the precise rose or group of roses you're looking for. (Click here to do a Rose Search)

One unique feature of EveryRose.com is the ability of rose growers around the world to add comments of their own experiences growing particular roses. This will build up a unique body of knowledge and information on roses in different local growing conditions.

The Data

Because the performance of roses varies widely with their growing conditions, we have tried to present an average of the references and growers catalog information here. Your results may vary! Some of the characteristics that will change with conditions are: height, width, hardiness, disease restance / proclivity, bloom season, fragrance, and colour. This is why we encourage you to submit your personal experience to the EveryRose.com Comments, and to browse through others' comments for information that could apply to your area.

Conventions

We have adopted several conventions for entry of data:

  • Periods have been removed from most rose names: Mr. E.E. Greenwell is listed as Mr E E Greenwell
  • The introduction date, listed name and hybridizer follow Bev Dobson and Peter Schneider's excellent yearly reference book, the Combined Rose List. Where there are two introduction dates, the earliest is listed. Alternative names are recorded as well.
  • The number of petals is the maximum number reported in the references - so read this as "up to # petals"
  • The American Rose Society colour is listed, then often a second, more descriptive colour. Where these differ, they represent a range of colours in different growing conditions.
  • Climbers have CL. after the name, for example Chicago Peace Cl. This makes it easier for us to sort.
  • Accented characters have regrettably been left unaccented. We apologise for this act of linguistic vandalism, perhaps in a future update we will be able to search and display accented characters with 100% reliability on the Web.
  • The ARS rating is the Roses in Review rating as reported in the ARS 1999 Handbook, and reflects an average of ratings for that rose across all the different climates in the US. Keep in mind that a particular rose may perform much better or more poorly in your specific growing conditions. Not all roses have been rated.

Errors, Omissions and Differences of Opinion

One thing that we can say with 100% accuracy is that there will be mistakes. Some differences, particularly in classification, colour, name, etc. are professional disagreements within the Rose fraternity, and may never be resolved. We have made judgement calls on these which we hope are consistent.

In the case where you spot a factual error, feel free to contact us, and please include the references that you have used to verify your corrected information. In addition, there are roses for which we have not yet been able to find comprehensive data. Any assistance in locating additional, verifiable characteristics on any of our listings would be greatly appreciated.

New Listings

We encourage rose hybridizers and introducers to contact us with both new introductions and detailed information about existing roses. If you are suggesting a new rose for inclusion in the list, please include some background and the names of the references where the rose is listed.
